Andromede: a community for conversation
Andromede has been open to the public since 2004. It offers conversations in public rooms and private messages, for free and without having to create an account first. Its server is part of the EuropNet IRC network.
A new place in English
Andromede grew up as a French-speaking chat. Its English-speaking community brings together people from the UK, Ireland, the United States, Canada, Australia and everywhere else English is spoken, English speakers living in France, Belgium and Switzerland, and people learning French or English. There is one welcome room, rooms for five countries, rooms for London, Dublin, Montreal and Paris, and rooms for expats, so that first conversations gather in the same places and people find each other more easily.
City and country rooms are open to people who live there, people who left and anyone curious about the place; nobody has to prove where they live.
Conversation starts with interests
Besides places, there are topic rooms for friends, dating, flirting, music, gaming, football, films and TV, and travel, as well as a language exchange room and a Learn French room. Each room's page has ideas to start a conversation and suggestions of similar rooms.
We do not promise a number of people or conversations at every hour of the day. The community grows with people who come back, say hello and make room for others. Have a look at the list of rooms and start with a topic you enjoy.
A service that keeps improving
The chat runs in the browser and shares its foundations with the mobile apps under development. We want joining, finding a room and finding friends to be pleasant on every screen. The buttons and menus of the browser chat are not translated into English yet; for now they appear in French.
Help us build the community
