Andromede opens a place for its English-speaking community

Andromede, a French chat site open to everyone since 2004, now has an English-speaking community. It starts with a welcome room, rooms for five countries and four cities, rooms for expats and topic rooms. You chat for free, with a nickname and no registration.

Why English on a French chat?

A French chat naturally attracts people who live in France or want to learn its language: expats looking for help with French paperwork, students on exchange, travellers, and people who simply want to practise their French. Many of them speak English, and until now the site had no English section. The welcome room #english-chat is now the starting point, with Expats in France, Expats in Belgium, Expats in Switzerland and a room for Paris in English.

Language exchange first

A French-born chat is the natural place for a tandem. In Language Exchange, French speakers who want to improve their English meet English speakers learning French, and Learn French welcomes questions asked in English. When you feel ready, the French rooms are one click away.

Countries, cities and topics

To start with, we have opened UK Chat, Ireland Chat, USA Chat, Canada Chat and Australia Chat, and rooms for London, Dublin and Montreal. The topic rooms are Friends, Dating, Flirt, Music, Gaming, Football, Movies and TV and Travel. Dating and Flirt are for adults, and explicit content has no place in them.

Each room has a page with conversation starters and suggestions of similar rooms.

What comes next

The buttons and menus of the browser chat are not translated into English yet and appear in French for now. The help page explains the main buttons in English.

First steps

Go to the home page, browse the rooms and say hello. How lively it is depends on who is online and changes during the day. The community is just starting, so come back and bring your friends. If you would like to help organise a get-together, get in touch with the team.
